Abstract This study assessed consumption pattern of fruits and vegetables among secondary school students in Delta State, Nigeria. Two research questions were answered by the study while two hypotheses were tested. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population for the study was 46,286 Senior Secondary School (SSS) II Students. Multistage random sampling technique was used to determine the sample size of 384 SSS II students for the study. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire face-validated by four experts while reliability of the instrument achieved using Cronbach Alpha reliability technique which yielded reliability coefficients of 0.91 and 0.88 for Parts B and C of the questionnaire respectively. Data were analysed using Mean and t-test statistics. The results showed that the students
“Often” consumed Fruits and Vegetables. Fruits such as Oranges, Banana, Pawpaw, African star apple (udala) are highly preferred among students while Vegetables such as Carrot, Fluted pumpkin leaf (ugu), Tomatoes and Water leaf are more preferred by the students. There was significant (p<0.05) difference between the mean ratings of Male and Female Students on consumption pattern of Fruits and Vegetables and on preference for consumption of certain Fruits. There is no significant (p<0.05) difference in the mean ratings of Male and Female Students on the preference for consumption of Vegetables. Based on the findings, the study recommended increased availability of all varieties of Fruits and Vegetables in school environment and gardens may stimulate students’ interest in fruits and vegetable consumptions.

Abstract Breaking away from the shackles of unemployment and ridicules of poverty is the dream of every individual and every nation This paper on catering entrepreneurship opportunities open to women for wealth creation and sustainable development in Nigeria is very timing considering the weight of hunger, anger and illnesses in many homes in Nigeria due to poverty Women are nation builders but unfortunately, many are unemployed. For economic development and sustainability, women who are nation builders need to strive hard to create wealth and generate income. This paper looked at the concept of wealth, wealth creation and opportunities open to women in catering business ventures for survival. Looking at the strategies stimulating women participation in catering wealth creation, non- formal education and extension services among others were highlighted. It was suggested that in the creation of wealth, money must be wisely spent and other principles of money management strictly adhered to.

Abstract This paper reviews the gender aspect of Home Economics Education Reason why there is gender gap in the teaching and learning of Home Economic education and the strategies on how to close the gap Also the usefulness of Home Economics Education to all sexes was discussed Finally some recommendations were made as what to be do to close the gap, as trying to make a change on course since it will motivate students more to study the course Also efforts should be made to educate parents on trying to identify the potentials in their children before choosing a course of study for them these are implemented it will surely increase the students enrolment in the study of Home Economics especially males.

Through Agriculture Education: A Gateway to Food Security and National Development in Nigeria, examined food security and insecurity and looked at women, especially rural women and empowerment. Today's families face many problems ranging from hunger, poverty, high food prices, unstable markets, and climate change that affect household food and security. This paper aims to ensure sufficient food for the household and maintain a stable food supply for consumers, among others with the roles played by women in food production, there is a need to empower
them educationally as educationally many disadvantaged are Food insecurity, contributing factors as well as strategies for improvement were discussed To enhance food security, the paper enumerated education of women, especially rural women and the provision of credit facilities, among others, as the strategies to improve food security in Nigeria for sustainable development. In conclusion, the paper emphasized the importance of women's empowerment through agricultural education by providing them with enabling environment that will not interfere with agriculture. Recommendations, among others, were the need for the women to be exposed to modern methods of agricultural education using extension agents that will teach them practically to enhance food production and security

Abstract The recent global economic meltdown has my doubt brought untold hardship on the generality of Nigerians Experts believe that the financial unbalance has created increasing dangers which can be summed up as increase in unemployment poverty violence against women increase in crime rate, which poses enormous challenges to the survival of families in Nigeria. The paper examined the causes of economic meltdown and effects in Nigeria. Effects of the meltdown on women were highlighted. These among users include poverty inability for families to provide the basic necessities of life, increased violence in the home and maternal and infant mortality. It was recommended that women should form cooperative societies to enable them get credit facilities to set up their businesses and vocational training centers set up in towns and villages for skill acquisitions.

Abstract The increasing rate of poverty, unemployment and retrenchment and so many other social problems is worrisome. However, unemployment is not peculiar to Nigeria alone but to other third world countries. This paper examined the objectives of Home Economics education as I is geared towards improving the standard of living. It looked at self-reliance, poverty Eradication through Home Economics Education, and the role of entrepreneurs hip in economic development. It also examined Home Economics income generating business ventures in the major areas of Home Economics for employment and wealth creation for sustainability. The paper concluded and recommended, among others things, that entrepreneur ship education be made compulsory at all levels of education and soft loans be made available to graduate for business up.
