Abstract Youths’ unemployment and its concomitant effect on human and food insecurity have
assumed a crisis dimension in Nigeria in recent times. Federal government efforts at solving
this social malaise through equipping youths with functional skills for job and wealth
creation, poverty, and hunger eradication led to the introduction of a trade curriculum in the
fishery in senior secondary schools. Instructional facilities availability and utility are
imperative for effective vocational skills inculcation in the recipients and this mandated this
study. This study investigated the availability and utilization of facilities for the
implementation of the Fishery trade curriculum in public secondary schools in Delta state.
The design of the study was an ex-post facto employing the survey method. The study
answered two research questions and tested two null hypotheses. The data collection
instrument was a structured questionnaire constructed on 5 points Likert scale type. The
questionnaire was validated by 3 experts in Agricultural Education and Test and
Measurement while, the reliability and internal consistency were determined using split-half,
Cronbach alpha, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, and a coefficient of
0.75 was obtained which was adjudged adequate for the study. The population of the study
comprised 376 Fishery teachers in the public senior secondary schools in Delta State, while
the sample obtained using Slovin 1960 sample size formula was 195. The data collected were
analyzed with mean, and standard deviation to answer research questions, and the hypotheses
were tested with t-test statistics. The study revealed that there is a gross dearth of facilities for
instruction in Fishery. It also showed that few facilities available are poorly utilized. Equally
revealed by the study are that there are no disparities in the facilities available in rural and
urban public secondary schools and that the available facilities utilization is not significantly
different in rural and urban secondary schools in Delta State. The study recommends that
government should provide facilities for Fishery instructions to enable Fishery teachers to
implement the Fishery trade to engender skill acquisition among students and teachers should
utilize the few available facilities.

Abstract The research examined the capacity building needs
of lecturers in teaching organic and inorganic soil
fertility management practice.Two research
questions and two hypotheses were tested. A total
of 201 agricultural education lecturers in Colleges
of education in South-South, Nigeria served as
respondents; hence an ex post facto designed was
used. A structured questionnaire titled "Organic
and Inorganic SoilFertility Management Practices
Questionnaire (OISFMPQ)" was used to gather
data. It was created after the researcher studied the
literature on organic and inorganic fertilizer
management and was found reliable and validated
through experts. To obtain insights into the issues
at hand, we analyzed the data at hand using
descriptive statistics using mean and standard
deviation. The t-test was used to determine whether
or not the null hypothesis was correct. It was found
that there was a significant difference in the mean
ratings of male and female lecturers in teaching
both organic and inorganic soil fertility
management practices. The results of the study
show that male agricultural lecturers require
capacity building in teaching both organic and
inorganic soil fertility management practices than
their female counterparts. It was recommended that
both State and Federal government should organize
internal capacity building workshops in the
Colleges of Education for re-training of the
lecturers especially the male lecturers, making use
of resource persons in soil fertility management
from universities.

Abstract The study examined the effect of community-based resource availability on animal husbandry course
implementation in Delta state, Nigeria. The questionnaires were administered with the help of 6
research assistants; who were able to retrieve 150 copies from principals, and 210 from Agricultural
Science teachers. The Multi-staged stratified random sampling procedure was used to arrive as the
sample size. The questionnaire was faced validated by 5 experts while the Split-half reliability method
proved that the instrument is reliable. Data pertaining the research questions were analyzed with
percentages (%), means (x ), and standard deviations (SD), while the four (4) hypotheses postulated
were tested using t-test at 0.05 significant level. The study found that, the mean ratings of male and
female principals and Agricultural Science teachers on the extent to which (i) Animal Husbandry has
been implemented (ii) Animal Husbandry is readily available in both rural and urban areas of Delta
State secondary schools; and (iii) community-based resources needs for implementing the Animal
Husbandry do not differ significantly. However, the mean ratings of principals and Agricultural
Science teachers on the extent to which lack of community-based resources availability constitute an
impediment to the implementation of Animal Husbandry in secondary schools in Delta State. Hence,
the study concludes that, community-based resource availability is the major reason impeding full
implementations of Animal Husbandry Courses in Delta State, Nigeria. As such, efforts should be
made to ensure community resources, especially those owned by government should be made readily
available to Agricultural Science teachers and students for use.

Abstract The research determine gender differences in the capacity building needs of lecturers in
teaching biological and physical properties of soil fertility management practice. Two
research question and hypotheses were tested. A total of 201 agricultural education lecturers
in Delta State served as respondents; hence an ex post facto designed was used. A structured
questionnaire titled "Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Management Practices Questionnaire
(SFFMPQ)" was used to gather data. It was created after the researcher studied the
literature on soil fertility and fertilizer management and was found reliable and validated
through experts. To obtain insights into the issues at hand, we analyzed the data at hand
using descriptive statistics using mean and standard deviation. The t-test was used to
determine whether or not the null hypothesis was correct. It was found that there was a
significant difference in the mean ratings of male and female lecturers in teaching both the
physical and biological properties of soil management practices. The results of the study
show that lecturers in Delta State have different capacity development requirements based on
whether they are teaching male or female students about biological and physical features of
soil fertility management. As a result, male lecturers have a greater need than their female
colleagues for training in how to effectively instruct students on the physical and biological
properties of soil and how to effectively manage it during the teaching-learning process.
